I think these are some fairly Portlandia-style evolutions of the American Halloween tradition. Except the growing of massive fruit and veg – that’s old-school (and Aussies don’t do that, really? I thought Yanks got that from the Brits).
We’re in a completely different season. The entire Autumn pumpkin patch/giant squash thing may be British but Australia missed the boat on that one. Oh, and add potato canons or shooting any root vegetable at a old cars in a field to the list.
